In modern Israel, it is celebrated as a holiday of love (חג האהבה, Ḥag HaAhava), with couples exchanging romantic gestures and a popular occasion for weddings. Historically, during the Temple period, Tu B’Av marked the beginning of the grape harvest season, when unmarried women would dress in white garments and dance in vineyards — making it one of the most festive occasions in the ancient Jewish calendar.
