Shabbat Shirah (“Sabbath [of] song” שבת שירה) is the name given to the Shabbat that includes Parsha Beshalach. The Torah reading contains the Song of the Sea (Exodus 15:1–18), the song sung by the Israelites after crossing the Red Sea, and the haftarah includes the Song of Deborah. An Ashkenazic custom is to place bird feeders outdoors before Shabbat in memory of birds’ assistance to Moses in the wilderness.
