Birkat Hachama (Hebrew: ברכת החמה) refers to a rare Jewish blessing recited to thank the Creator for the sun. The blessing is recited once every 28 years when, according to Jewish tradition, the sun returns to the position it occupied at the moment of Creation. The sun’s 28-year cycle completes on Tuesday at sundown, but since the sun must be visible for the blessing, it is recited the following Wednesday morning. The most recent occurrence was April 8, 2009; the next is scheduled for April 8, 2037.
